The ring

Only what makes sense.

The ring reads your file and shows only the formats it can actually become. You never scroll a list of twenty options.

Shrink

Same file. A fraction of the size.

Shrink keeps the format and saves name (smaller) next to the original. These are real results from our tests on the Balanced setting.

Tools

Not just formats.

Crop, resize, rotate, mute, merge. All of them live in the same ring, so you never open another app.

Crop for every feed

1:1, 4:5, 16:9 or 9:16. Smart crop finds the subject and keeps it in frame.

Resize in one click

Half size, 1080px for the web, 2048 or 4K. Your aspect ratio is kept.

↻

Rotate & flip

Photos and PDF pages, upright in a tap.

Mute a video

Strip the audio. The video isn't re-encoded, so it's instant.

Merge PDFs

Select several, tap ⇧⌘, pick 1 PDF.

Never uploaded

Everything runs on your Mac's own hardware and works offline. New files never overwrite: you get photo 2.jpg.

Right-click too

It's in Finder's Services menu.

⌘Z

Undo anything

Press ⌘Z on the check mark and the new file goes to the Trash.

Questions

Before you download.

Is it really free?

Yes. Download it and convert as much as you like.

Why does macOS say it can't verify Tapformat?

Tapformat isn't registered in Apple's paid developer program yet, so macOS asks you to confirm it the first time. Click Done, then open System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway. You only do this once, and updates install automatically after that.

Why does it ask for Accessibility permission?

macOS only lets an app notice a key tap made inside Finder if you allow it under Accessibility. Tapformat uses it to spot the ⇧⌘ tap and nothing else. It doesn't read or store what you type.

Why does it ask to control Finder?

That's how it finds out which files you've selected when you tap ⇧⌘. macOS shows a one-time prompt for it.

Which Macs does it run on?

Any Mac with Apple silicon or Intel running macOS 15 Sequoia or later.

Can I change the shortcut?

Yes. In Settings you can switch to ⌥⌘ or ⌃⌥.

Can it convert a whole folder of photos?

Select as many files as you like and tap ⇧⌘ once. The ring only offers formats every selected file supports, and several images can also become one PDF.
